Tony Abbott confronted by Craig from the Chaser about debt, and can’t give a straight answer (video)

From the man who criticises the Labor government of economic spending, comes the metaphor, you need to treat the federal budget like a household budget – but refuses to answer questions about his second mortgage.

Tony Abbott’s wife, Mrs Abbott, describes taking out that second mortgage:

She conceded that the family, who took out a $710,000 mortgage against their Sydney home when Mr Abbott’s pay was slashed after the 2007 election, could have done with a second income when their three daughters were young. But she had no regrets about her years as a stay-at-home mum.

So even on their pay, which would have put Tony Abbott in the top 1% of Australian income earners, they still failed to manage their household finances.

And this man wants to lecture Wayne Swan – World’s Best Finance Minister – about how to budget?

  1. The most striking thing about the video footage is how he could not answer a simple question.

He stuttered, stammered, mumbled a bit of nervous platitude, then turned around and walked off! With the camera on him as he fled!

Is he capable of putting words together when challenged? He certainly could not do so when questioned mildly about his stupid “Shit happens” comment:

Here is a satirical article highlighting his aversion to scrutiny:

Does someone who both cannot handle questioning and actively goes out of his way to flee from scrutiny, have what it takes to be PM?

I think the answer to that is abundantly clear.

No, he does not have what it takes to be PM.

    • Classic Tiny. Thanks for this.
Like a rabbit caught in the headlights whenever he is asked a direct question, that blank stare is creepy when he has nothing to say, like a toy whose battery has died and is running down.
The media know this, and do nothing – they don’t even consider the footage they could get, it would be gold, but they would rather pander to his slick spin driven rehearsed comments.

Maybe that’s why he loves his 3-word slogans, anything more and he gets confused.
