Tony Abbott Unleashed the Lynch Mob, and Fairfax is leading with the flaming pitchforks

‘You have unleashed the lynch mob’ Craig Thomson

We are now a country that believes Guilty Until Proven Innocent, or Until You Vote Liberal

As Malcolm Farr said about Craig Thomson’s address to Parliament yesterday As of today he [Thomson] has not been found guilty of anything, apart from a Liberal charge of not resigning to allow Tony Abbott to win government early.

Craig Thomson accused the media, they have done their CSI, Law & Order thingumy-jig and hey, presto! found themselves innocent of all accusations. He talked about trial by media, and the media responds… by throwing a poll up on their website.

So what do readers of the supposedly left-wing, Gina Rinehart part-owned, Fairfax think?

Let’s look at these options
Do you believe Craig Thomson?

Yes, he was convincing … Not sure … No, there are too many unanswered questions

If there are too many unanswered questions that means guilty, right?

Not enough evidence = guilt, if we no longer believe in the presumption of innocence, a fair trial, a day in court, a trained judge hearing evidence instead of Abbott and Media prosecuting the case.

The opinion writers of Fairfax will then use this poll to scream Guilty! about Thomson, He Must Resign!

Why even persist with quaint old-fashioned ideas of law, judges, trials, evidence – let’s turn Justice into a reality TV show, each side has 20 minutes to present their case, in between ads for feminine hygiene products and breakfast cereals, and the viewers at home can phone in their opinions Guilty / Not Guilty.

Democracy has been abandoned, we now have trial by media. We now have Demockery instead.

  1. Like the ‘Guilty Until Proven Innocent, or Until You Vote Liberal’. We are now a country where it’s ‘rule of rabble’ rather than ‘rule of law’.

    • Pynes evidence that Thomson lied to parli – a The Australian article. It’s circular. And when the media have already decided the next election (both the result and that it is going early) the Left have little chance
