Has the death knell just sounded for Federal Labor?

Or, is that just the business as usual, one opinion of one reporter for #TheirABC?

With the Levenson inquiry into Rupert Murdoch and his toxic culture of media ownership, there has been a frenzy of investigation about whether the same shadow-state, toxic media culture exists here – oh wait, there hasn’t.

Murdoch’s influence over the vast majority of media in this country has, strangely enough, been ingored by the media.

Australian political reporters have more important things to worry about. Yes, another Media-LNP manufactured scandal. In a series of tweets, discussing Bill Shorten, the Prime Minister, Peter Slipper, and the Health Services Union, Latika Bourke has said:

This all feels like the same feeling of watching the final years of the NSW Labor Govt…

Without knowing what in particular, Ms Bourke is referring to, as this tweet is vague, perhaps Shorten, Thomson, Slipper (who apparently joined the Labor party without anyone knowing) – other than the current Government of the Day, which is Labor.

It may feel that way to the media, but amongst those of us on the Left, it feels like a Government under constant attack by journalists, especially from the Murdoch stable, who confuse rumour and innuendo with research. In an ongoing attempt to achieve regime change – if the Liberal Nationals can’t win government at the ballot, then, they will do it by hook or by crook.

If it is anything like NSW State Labor then it is more about the media obsession, like sharks who can smell blood in the water, and less to do with reality. If this is the Last Days, then it is because the current mob of political journalists keep saying so – creating a self-fulfilling prophecy. From the Murdoch media at near saturation levels of media ownership in this country to #TheirABC which takes its lead from the Murdoch media headlines.

We deserve better in this country than a media which creates a frenzy of attack against a performing, reforming government that is delivering real change, to the betterment of all Australians, not just the faceless billionaires and mining magnates.

If the government does not fulfil its full term – the media in this country will be responsible for not only subverting democracy, but shoving a dagger in democracy’s heart and twisting the knife, just to make sure it stays dead.

By Hook or By Crook – is an old English phrase that means by any means necessary as in not meant to imply that Murdoch media, aided and abetted by #theirABC are doing anything illegal, or crooked, but if the reader wishes to infer that, it cannot be helped.

Incompetence Shines Through

Posted on April 11, 2012 by archiearchive FCD

With all the polls indicating a crushingly anti-ALP mood within the Australian Electorate, fed by a conniving media, there are still some things which cannot be papered over.

Like the incompetence of the Barnett Government in Western Australia. Like the apparent fraud of the Rorts Royalties for Regions imposed upon the State by National’s leader, Brendon Grylls when he hijacked 25% of all oils and mineral royalties for his blatant pork-barrelling use. Like a perverted chair-sniffing adulterer in charge of the State Bank Account. It all adds up and electors DO have a memory longer than a goldfish!

The numbers are becoming disturbing and, to keep the current LNP Govt in the apparent lead, shenanigans have to be played with the numbers. The uncommitted are excluded and the 2PP number is based on preferences, not in this poll but on the last election, some four years ago! ALP + Greens = 46% yet only 11% of Other is allocated to the ALP to give an alleged 47% 2PP.

Think about it, then think about some of the other polling tripe we are being fed nationally!

Corruption, Theft, Incompetence, and Law Breaking in the Liberal Nationals

This is an old piece written by Senator John Faulkner (of NSW), from 2006 – but the incompetence and failures of the current Opposition – which was the government at the time the piece was written. The Howard Government may be gone, but some of the same people are still in parliament, and the hypocrisy does not go away.

Government Accountability – The Senate
Senator the Hon John Faulkner
Labor Senator for NSW
The Senate
2 March 2006

To this list can be added Mary Jo Fisher, current LNP senator from South Australia – shoplifter and security guard assaulter

And the Victorian LNP – who wants a corruption watchdog, but wants politicians exempt for any possible corruption (Victoria’s Liberal-National Politicians Exempt Themselves From Corruption Commission)

Then there is Hajnal Black, somehow over a million dollars of her clients money ended up in her bank account, she is a conservative from Queensland.

While not illegal, let’s also remember the Liberal from South Australia who told a female Senator she should be put down (South Australia, this man represents you: “You Should Be Put Down” MP Pengilly)

At the end of Faulkners very long list, he concludes:

Of course, all these sins mean nothing to the Howard government. After all, how can it repent what it cannot recall? This government, and its hand-picked sycophants, suffers from the worst case of collective amnesia in medical and political history. What are the bywords of the Howard government? ‘I cannot recall,’ ‘I don’t recollect,’ ‘I wasn’t informed,’ ‘I can’t remember,’ ‘I have no recollection of that.’

Question from a reader: Which LNP politician was arrested for shoplifting?

Which LNP politician was arrested for shoplifting? That would be Mary Jo Fisher, who also allegedly assaulted a security guard.

Tony Abbott: We are all Israeli … Really? We Are?

The headline on this Jewish News story was taking a quote from Abbott which is further down the page

Tony Abbott as far as I’m concerned, Australians are Israelis. We are all Israelis

In other words, followers of non-Abrahamic religions, atheists, Muslims, Palestinians, Arabs, people of Middle East descent or recent migrants, or just brown people in general – You Will Not Be Welcome In Abbotts Australia.

Rob Oakeshott and Greg Hunt disagree about Carbon Pricing

text below if images don’t load

Greg Hunt (@GregHuntMP) is Shadow Minister for Climate Action

Robert Oakeshott (@OakeyMP) is Independent Federal MP for Lyne.

text of image:
@GregHuntMP Interesting to know whether PM agrees with Minister Combet re carbon tax that “It’s not a tax…” Keen to hear today

@OakeyMP @GregHuntMP Greg, please refer me to the Carbon Tax Bill to support your case.I can’t find it.What I can find is ETS Bills, but no CT bills.

@GregHuntMP @OakeyMP the PM conceded it is a tax, 2nd the def’n of such is a fixed price floating volume impost – 3rd changing name does not fool public

@OakeyMP @GregHuntMP ok-so can u actually show me a CT Bill? The only tax-related bill 2 do with carbon I voted for is lifting the tax-free threshold.

@GregHuntMP @OakeyMP if you didn’t realise that the Clean Energy Bill was a carbon tax at $23/tonne, are you willing to withdraw your vote? #itsataxrob

@OakeyMP @GregHuntMP and thanks for at least acknowledging they are not technically tax bills.

Tony Abbott Is Managing His Daughters Career, There Is No Hard Hat With That

Tony Abbott’s daughter is a model. No ordinary model. She does not have a manager. Tony Abbott managers her career.

That’s right, his staff, quite possibly the same ones that your taxes and my taxes are paying for.

Adding yet another skill to Abbotts bow, along with construction worker, soldier, police officer, doctor, fish-monger, fruit-packer, we now have model agent.

As Abbott’s daughter launches her modelling career as an ambassador for the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival, she has no professional representation.

Surely that is a slur against every model agency in the country that none of them are up to the job.

When The Sun-Herald called the Australian Turf Club to speak to Ms Abbott about the trend of politicians’ children taking up modelling, the paper was referred to Mr Abbott’s press secretary and told Ms Abbott does not have her own agent.
Source: Sun-Herald

All requests with that paper were also refused – which sort of defeats the purpose of paying an ambassador in the first place. After all, isn’t an ambassadors job to get publicity. To promote the very thing you are hired to be an ambassador for. That is really not value for money.

The Sun-Herald contacted the office of the Victorian Premier, Ted Baillieu, to speak to his daughters about their modelling careers. His office said they were unavailable for comment.

Who needs to pay for anything, when Daddy’s staff can step in and do so.

Zombie Work Choices – dead, buried, cremated – returns to life?

text of tweet: Spain – after decades of unionized laws – now turns to WorkChoices to save them

This recent tweet by Queensland MP Andrew Laming, shows that not all Liberal/Nationals have given up on a return of WorkChoices.

Despite Tony Abbott declaring that WorkChoices was dead, buried, cremated, like a zombie-policy – it seems like there will Ministers pushing for it to rise from the dead if there is ever an Abbott government.

If adherents of a Liberal National agenda believe that a country is saved by Work Choices, can it be long before they begin taking about saving Australia.

These people cannot be trusted when it comes to Industrial Relations policy.
